In Silent Hill f, you'll play as Shimizu Hinako, a high schooler from Ebisugaoka, in what Okamoto says is an "authentic depiction of 1960s Japan."
Okamoto explains that the team used four pillars when approaching development of the game, with that authentic depiction as the first. The second is the game's aesthetics, which are meant to marry beauty and horror. Okamoto notes that the monsters were designed by the artist kera, while the score is handled by Akira Yamaoka and Kensuke Inage, with Yamaoka having been heavily involved in Silent Hill, especially as a musician, since early in the series.
The third pillar, Okamoto explains, "is puzzles are grounded in psychological anguish and suffering." The puzzles will "deeply connect" to the story, written by Ryukishi07, and tie into Japanese history and culture. The fourth, finally, is that the game will feature unique combat. "The combat will have a heavier focus on melee and be more action-oriented compared to last year’s Silent Hill 2," Okamoto says.
This is considered a "standalone spin-off," meaning that you don't have to play any of the other Silent Hill games to enjoy it. That also implies things about the greater Silent Hill series that we're deeply curious about.
Silent Hill f will be available on September 25 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
